Meet Lian Qiao
Ashburn
Lian Qiao is a vibrant force in classical music—equally passionate as a performer, educator, and cultural entrepreneur. Currently advancing her artistry as a Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) candidate in Cello Performance at The Catholic University of America (CUA), she shines as Principal Cellist of the university’s Symphony and Repertory Orchestras. Her dedication extends to the classroom, where she serves as a Teaching Assistant for Music Theory and Ear Training, guiding students through fundamentals with energy and insight.
Lian’s teaching journey spans over a decade. She has mentored undergraduates at Duquesne University and Syracuse University, coached young musicians for the Pittsburgh Youth Chamber Orchestra, and today inspires private students across Northern Virginia. Her innovative spirit led her to found the Eastern Cello Boot Camp—an intensive program she’s directed since 2013, bringing master artists and immersive training to aspiring cellists.
Beyond performance and pedagogy, Lian drives change in the arts ecosystem. As Founder/President of the International Asia-Pacific Artists Association, she creates global opportunities for musicians, while her role as Music Executive Director for the Global Musician and Arts Association amplifies emerging talent through competitions and concerts. Her entrepreneurial vision also fuels Udo Culture Media, a platform connecting artists with career resources and international exchanges.
On stage, Lian’s accolades include recent Grand Awards at the Apex International Music Competition (2024, 2025) with her solo and her ensemble Le Sillage, culminating in performances at Carnegie Hall’s Zankel Hall. She has held principal cello positions with 15+ orchestras—from the Beijing Peking Opera Theatre to CUA’s ensembles—and collaborates with luminaries like Joshua Bell, Lang Lang, and conductors Daniel Barenboim and Manfred Honeck. Her commitment to artistic exchange is further evidenced by United Nations-recognized performances and her current role as juror for international competitions.
Lian synthesizes artistic excellence, educational dedication, and visionary leadership—making her an invaluable asset to the DMV area’s musical landscape.
