Meet Susie Clay
Ashburn
Susie has been teaching beginner to late-intermediate piano lessons in her home from school age students to teens for many years. She has also taught music classes to preschoolers and worked with adults as a technical writer. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education from Towson University. Susie’s incorporated her experience and love of music, teaching and writing into her teaching style and brings confidence into each student she teaches through patience, encouragement and positive feedback. She uses the Alfred and Piano Adventures music books while also including other music from varied composers to inspire skills and learning.
Music was an integral part of her youth and throughout adulthood - from singing songs (many folk and holiday tunes) around the piano while her mother played to practicing and playing classical and pop pieces to being in the chorus and the Alexandria Choral Society. She enjoys bringing that joy to each student using engaging teaching methods and holding a spring recital to showcase their progress.
In her free time, she loves going to the beach and new outings with her husband and two young adult children, gardening, nature walks, reading and attending concerts. She’s lived in and raised her family in Ashburn for 23 years.
